Updates From The President

This year will be a year of firsts. This year, we will challenge tradition and blaze our own path. FASC serves as a giant melting pot of cultures, ideas, and opportunities, which allows students to interact with others on a deeper level, and allow for greater understanding of different people. This year will serve as an inspiration for other students to look at situations differently to gain a new perspective on the world around them. 

Our executive board is excited to promote this year’s state project, “Post High School Pathways”! We hope to inspire our students to consider all potential possibilities for their future once they graduate high school. By connecting students with resources and contacts that pertain to their areas of interest, we hope to raise school spirit and academic achievement for each and every student. 

            This year, FASC is offering many events for students and advisors to become involved. On August 5, advisors can attend the virtual NA4SA conference and on August 26, advisors can attend the in person FAAA Advisor’s Clinic at Timber Creek HS in Orlando. Advisors can also attend the NA4SA Conference in San Francisco from December 1st - 3rd. And of course, the annual Kickoff Conference for FASC 2023 will be held at Gainesville High School November 10th and 11th. Additionally, everyone will have the opportunity to attend the FASC Leadership Convention at Bay HS and Mosley HS February 23rd - 25th. And of course, students and advisors can participate in their local district meetings and rallies. 

            I distinctly remember the first time I fell in love with student government and wanted to participate in it. I was a 6th grader attending a district meeting at my current high school, Palm Beach Central. That one meeting opened my eyes to the vast prospects that I can use to change the world. Going into high school, despite the pandemic, I was determined to become as involved in my school as I possibly could. Initially, there was nothing else I wanted to do more than to be president of my school’s SGA. However, this goal changed when I attended FASC Leadership Convention 2022 my sophomore year. I was immediately mesmerized by the scale at which SGA had expanded into the real world. After that, I strived hard to prepare myself for the state level. I served as the Vice President of the Palm Beach County Council, and the first chairman of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Finally, all that hard work paid off when I was elected FASC President for the 2023-2024 school year. Between all the workshops, rallies, and conferences, FASC has definitely been the highlight of my four years in high school. 

        As the president of such an influential organization, I strive to make sure that no student feels that his / her voice is unheard. A main reason that I am president today is because my predecessor did such a great job of making himself friendly and approachable. He did not hesitate to add value to me when I asked him for advice, and so I will do everything in my power to add value to others. At FASC, we don’t just raise student leaders. We also shape leaders of character, people who may not be at the top of the hierarchy, but people who others look up to based on their character.I can’t wait to work with you to help grow and shape the next generation of leaders.

Student Councils

The Florida Association of Student Councils (FASC) consists of over 200 middle and high schools from throughout the State of Florida who are working together to bring about a growth in student leadership development, participation in student activities and student engagement in civic affairs.

Over the years, FASC has witnessed a tremendous change in the role school student councils and student governments play both in their schools and their communities. It is the overall goal of the FASC to assist school student councils in their efforts to meet the changing needs of their schools and students in the 21st century.

Much more can be learned about the FASC, including a brief history of the organization, by going to the Question and Answer area of the website. The FASC is constantly working and organizing to be able to reach the goals of:

  1. Developing and promoting student engagement in their schools and communities.
  2. Facilitating the sharing of ideas, news and projects among member schools.
  3. Encouraging student participation in student council/student government on all levels.
  4. Developing student leadership, responsibility, personal growth.
  5. Practicing and promoting the idea of representative democracy.

To achieve these goals the FASC advertises and promotes attendance at the meetings held in each of the six FASC districts, sponsors a leadership clinic open to advisors and students in the fall of each year, offers a spring officer training, holds a state convention at which state officers are elected and resolutions are adopted and publishes two newsletters, the Florida Sun and Leadership Florida. In addition the FASC maintains a website, fasa.net/fasc, on which you can find the current FASC and FASC District officers, the FASC and FASC District constitutions, FASC District meeting dates and conference and convention materials. Additionally examples of school constitutions, leadership lesson lesson plans, awards programs, and tutorials can be found. The website is updated regularly.
