WEST PORT PRINCIPAL JOINS NATIONAL EDUCATION LEADERSHIP BOARD
LOCAL SCHOOL LEADER WILL PROVIDE "REALITY CHECK" FOR FEDERAL EDUCATION POLICY
August 11, 2010--Jayne Ellspermann, principal of West Port High School in Ocala, FL, has been appointed to a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the nation's leading professional organization for middle level and high school principals and assistant principals.
Ellspermann has been in school administration since 1995, serving as principal at Osceola and West Port middle schools before taking the lead at West Port High School in 2006. She served as president of the Florida Association of School Administrators in 2009-10 and has received numerous awards including the Florida School Administrator Award in 2008.
As a member of the NASSP Board of Directors, Ellspermann will participate in shaping the organization's federal education policy agenda that advocates for the needs of secondary schools and their students. Ellspermann will also travel to Washington, DC, periodically to meet with fellow Board members and with national figures and federal education policymakers.
"With the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (currently called No Child Left Behind) being considered for reauthorization, this is a crucial time to consider how federal legislation affects schools," said NASSP Executive Director Gerald N. Tirozzi. "And Jayne will be right in the thick of those conversations, providing federal policymakers a much-needed reality check on how their policies will impact actual schools."
