The 2010 MetLife/NASSP National Principals of the Year
 |
Sheila Kahrs Haymon-Morris Middle School (GA) |
Lucy Beckham Wando High School (SC) |
The MetLife/NASSP National Principal of the Year program began in
1993 as a means to recognize outstanding middle level and high school
principals. The program annually honors secondary school principals who
have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for
students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the
profession.
Selection Process
Each of the 50 states, the
District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity
select one middle level and one high school principal to represent
their state. From these state winners, six finalists are named as
contenders for the
National Principal of the Year award.
The 2011 MetLife/NASSP National Principals of the Year (one middle
level and one high school) will be selected from among the finalists
and will receive a $5,000 grant. The four finalists receive a $1,500
grant.
Recognition
MetLife and NASSP honor all State
Principals of the Year at the Principal’s Institute and Awards Banquet
held each year in Washington, DC. The Institute not only salutes the
principalship but also provides a forum for honorees to share best
practices and expertise.
