MESSAGE FROM FASA PRESIDENT, BOB JONES

Dear FASA Members,

Words cannot describe how awesome it is for me to complete my 42 year career in education as the leader of school administrators in the great state of Florida.  I am truly blessed to be able to represent the thousands of school administrators who work tirelessly to make public education in Florida the best in the nation.  Throughout my career, I have been a teacher, a coach, a dean, an assistant principal, and a middle school and high school principal.  I have watched many changes in education over the years and I am proud to say that most have been for the good.

This is a pivotal time in our state and our nation.  Public education is under attack from several fronts, funding is being shifted to private and charter schools, we are experiencing a change in our student standards and state-wide testing, and, through all of this, we are still tasked to provide the best education possible in a safe setting for our students.

What makes me so proud is that we do just that.  We deal with budgets, standards, and testing, while also dealing with discipline issues, upset parents, and broken water lines.  We keep our schools clean, safe, and productive throughout the day then attend ball games, concerts, plays, and parent meetings at night.  Few other professions have the demands of being a school administrator.

This is why it is more important than ever that we have a strong state-wide organization to support us with professional development, protect us with advocacy efforts in Tallahassee, and provide a forum for us to communicate with each other.  FASA provides all of these services and more.

When I first became involved with the leadership of FASA 10 years ago, I began to learn how valuable FASA is to each of us and how important it is for us to be involved with our professional organization.  I felt an obligation to get more involved and step out to speak up for our profession and for public education.  You, too, can step out and become involved.  If you have any desire to help chart the course for public education in Florida, I am challenging you to step out and make a difference.  Our schools, teachers, and, most important, our students, deserve  and need it.

I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as I can throughout the coming year.  I am at your service and would love to visit your school or your district.  I may be reached at 850-865-9393 or at bobjones0413@gmail.com.

Yours in education,

Bob Jones
