MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTDear Colleagues,The Florida Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals focuses on the goals of modeling and promoting high standards of professional practices, recognize members’ successes, and provide professional networks. We also participate in legislative and professional issues, stimulate and promote professional growth, and communicate with a collective voice to support our endeavors. Never has there been a more challenging period in education. With Race to the Top, class size limitations, unfunded mandates and the higher standards our students need to be prepared for the 21st Century, administrators are facing the dilemma of how to approach the many needs with less financial support. We must be more proactive and help our stakeholders have an awareness of the awesome accomplishments our schools are making and enlist support to face the current challenges. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” We are the voice for our students, teachers, parents, community. Public education is America’s noble experiment- universal education for all citizens and is a cornerstone of our democracy. Public education continues to play a crucial role in how we see our nation and our future. I urge you to become involved with your local, state and national organizations. We are the leaders and we can make a difference. FASA’s leadership is working diligently to make a difference, working for administrators across the state. Encourage your colleagues to join the mission and our goals: • To promote a spirit of professionalism among all school administrators. • To advance public education by providing organized and unified efforts for the resolving of matters concerning school administrators. • To improve standards of cooperation with other professional organizations on matters of an educational nature upon which there is mutual agreement. • To provide opportunities for cooperative study of various problems common to education in the state. • To lend assistance concerning general and specific problems through publications, direct assistance to local professional organizations, conferences and varied in-service activities. • To foster the management team concept among, and to promote the personal welfare of, school administrators in the state.
