MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Colleagues, It is an esteemed privilege to be able to address you as the 2011-2012 FASC President. I eagerly look forward to the upcoming school year, and I promise you I will do my best to serve and represent every member school of FASC with honor, integrity, and pride. As you know, this is a very difficult year for education. Funding for schools has been drastically reduced, and many elective classes including Leadership classes are in danger of being cut. I recently travelled to the State Capital in Tallahassee with a delegation from the South Florida PTSA to convey the message to state legislators that students will not stand for anything less than quality education. I encourage all of you to become involved by contacting your state representatives. It is important that they hear from students the need to maintain if not increase funding for education. Your executive board is working hard on planning the this year's state convention, which will be hosted by Astronaut High School next March 2nd - 4th . There is every indication that this will be the most successful convention yet. So, be sure to make you plans to blast off for Titusville in 2012. Keep in mind that in order to accomplish the goal of increasing FASC membership, we are counting on each district to grow by inviting nonmember schools to become active and join FASC. It is essential to contact and invite all your neighboring schools to district meetings and events. Show them the benefits and rewards of becoming involved in FASC. The more members we have the more effective and unified our voice will be. Our state project this year is, “Operation Not Forgotten.” The focus of this project is to support our military veterans across the state. There are over 60 regional outpatient centers and veteran administration hospitals in Florida, in addition to numerous charitable organizations that operate in support of veterans. Many of these agencies are in need of supplies, volunteers, and most importantly the support of students. I am preparing a PowerPoint presentation for the website which will include project ideas as well as veteran center contact information so you can get started right away. Please do not hesitate to contact the FASC executive board for project ideas, or if you have any questions. As you complete your projects, please send an email summary with photos to BocaHighSGA@gmail.com so we can publish them to the FASC website. Remember friends: lead by example, take initiative, and NEVER FORGET. Sincerely,
Ian Mellul FASC President IanMellul@Gmail.com
