FLORIDA’S PUBLIC SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES 2021
Keep Educators Safe:
- Prioritize educators in the next round of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Hold Educators Harmless:
- We support the continuation of assessments to determine where students are to provide better supports and intervention to achieve student learning goals.
- Allow for flexibilities in school grade criteria to best capture learning growth to minimize adverse impacts to educators.
Raise General Revenue for Overall Budget:
- Support collection of internet sales tax revenues that would allow for greater resources in schools. This will support lost revenues from reduced property taxes.
- This supports the local businesses that support our schools by ensuring parity in the remittance of taxes to the state.
- Support: HB 15/SB 50 - Sales and Use Tax
Support Administrators’ Professional Development:
- Fund the Instructional Leadership and Faculty Development fund (ILFD)
- For the past three fiscal years, Florida school districts have relied on the ILFD funds to provide critical professional development for administrators. The challenges of managing students and teachers in-person and virtually coupled with the release of new standards, high-quality professional development is NECESSARY to ensure the success of our students.
Ensure Successful Starts for Early Learners:
- Provide necessary support for estimated in-flux of early learners in 2021-2022 that will require additional remediation and assistance for student learning.
- Current projected enrollment of kindergarten is down by at least 25,000 statewide. Many of these students will have missed a year of instruction or will have not had any formal education at all.
