[Santa Rosa Beach, FL—February 1, 2024]  The Florida Association of School Administrators (FASA) believes that school leadership is key to student success and is honored to recognize excellent school leaders. Assistant Principals are a vital piece to the leadership in schools, yet their importance is often overlooked. The Assistant Principalship is an important step in career development which can lead to stronger principals and better outcomes for all students.

FASA is pleased to announce that Hannah Gomillion has been named the 2023-24 recipient of the Florida NAESP National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year Award. Gomillion has worked at Van R. Butler Elementary, in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, for the past 12 years, and has been in the Assistant Principal position for the past two years. She believes that relationships between staff, students, parents, and the community are the most important tools in being a successful leader.

“Mrs. Gomillion’s collaborative personality brings students, parents, and teachers together to build a stronger community in and around the school,” said Michele White, CAE, Executive Director, FASA. “She exemplifies the heart of FASA’s mission of providing a high-quality education to all students in Florida, and I know she will continue to succeed in her leadership pathway.”

“Mrs. Gomillion’s influence on the Butler community can be felt in the area of academic excellence as well as in the overall school culture. Her leadership in the implementation of the House system last school year was extraordinary as she brought excitement and enthusiasm to the entire community. The House system has helped to promote a sense of family among students and staff which has resulted in a drastic reduction in behavior referrals,” said Allison Harber, Assistant Principal of Van R. Butler Elementary.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) recognizes accomplished elementary-level assistant principals from across the nation and abroad as a part of its annual Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year Award. The 2024 class of NDPs will be recognized during National Assistant Principal’s Week, April 1-5, 2024.
