Industry,

Brevard Schools Foundation, filling educational funding and opportunity gaps at all our 85 public schools for 74,300 students and 5,000 teachers, today announced it has received a grant for $33,750 as part of a three-year $1.2 million grant from the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation to the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (Consortium) aimed at increasing student interest in healthcare careers and successful participation in high school healthcare academies, particularly among students from underrepresented rural communities.

Through the ‘Explore & Excel in Healthcare Career Pathways’ program grant, Brevard Schools Foundation will partner with Brevard Public Schools Career and Technical Education department to enhance and expand opportunities for over 300 students enrolled in the Heritage High School Sports Medicine Academy.

“We are confident that this project will have a significant impact by increasing healthcare interests and strengthening relationships with our local healthcare community for years to come,” said Jenny King, Content Specialist for Brevard Public Schools Career and Technical Office.

“DeLuca’s belief in our mission and its commitment to advancing healthcare education is truly inspiring. We are dedicated to ensuring that the funds are utilized effectively and efficiently to create meaningful outcomes for our students.”

This project will expand work-based learning opportunities for all students and eliminate barriers for individual students by covering costs of transportation, uniforms, and career exploration activities.

“We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to expand healthcare career pathways for our students,” said Janice Kershaw, President and CEO of Brevard Schools Foundation.

“This funding will help break down barriers and provide hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success in high-demand healthcare fields. By investing in their futures today, we are strengthening both our local workforce and our community as a whole.”

“The Consortium is pleased to bring much-needed healthcare career pathway exploration and acceleration opportunities to students across the state of Florida,” said Mary Chance, President/CEO of the Consortium. “As healthcare careers continue to be in-demand, the need to inspire and engage students in this area is critical.”
