A Collier County high school principal has been named Florida’s Principal of the Year, receiving the state’s top honor for school leadership on Tuesday for his role in driving academic achievement and fostering an inclusive school culture.

According to the Collier County Public Schools, Joe Mikulski of Golden Gate High School was selected as the 2025 recipient of the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership.

The award, established in 1988, is given to one exceptional principal each year who demonstrates visionary leadership, promotes student success, ensures a safe and inclusive environment, and builds strong community relationships.

Mikulski is credited with raising expectations across campus and helping Golden Gate High earn an A-rating.

“Known for his thoughtful approach, deep commitment to student success, and genuine care for staff and families, Mr. Mikulski has made Golden Gate High School a place where everyone feels supported, seen, and inspired to grow,” said Superintendent Dr. Leslie Ricciardelli, who was present for the award announcement. “This award is one in which the entire Titans community may all take pride.”

Each school district in Florida can nominate one principal annually for the honor. Mikulski was selected from among those nominees as the top leader in the state this year.
