Holmes County receives $1.5 million state grant for emergency preparations
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management and the Holmes County School Board announced on Tuesday that they received a $1.5 million state grant toward emergency preparedness.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, the funding will be used to replace the Bonifay K-8 generator with one that can support the school serve as a hurricane shelter in the event of a hurricane. The existing generator at Bonifay K-8 will be repurposed within the district.
“It’s another example of two organizations working together to better Holmes County. This grant will make a significant difference in our ability to serve the community during hurricanes and other emergencies,” said Sheriff John Tate in a post to Facebook.
The funding will also be utilized to accommodate those with special needs during severe weather events.
HCSO says the grant will also fund the installation of a generator at the Holmes County School District office.
According to the HCSO, Emergency Management Director Barry Lee and Holmes District School Board (HDSB) Director of District Operations Josh McGowan successfully wrote and submitted the grant application.
