While the School Board plans to leave retired teacher health insurance supplements alone, veteran teachers now are concerned promises about health insurance supplements after retirement will be broken.

Teachers crowded the School Board meeting for the second consecutive month with questions about health insurance supplements paid after they retire.

Last month, the board considered ending, in 2030, the health insurance contributions it pays for 117 retired educators and 66 soon-to-be retired educators younger than 65 who are ineligible for Medicare. The proposal also included ending health insurance subsidies to retirees over 65. The board now plans to leave the policy affecting those employees alone.
