Treasure Hunting

I love doing my podcast Educational Leadership and Beyond. It airs weekly on Facebook as well as on iTunes. I get to meet a ton of great people and I’m always learning something new.

Recently I had the opportunity to interview Trisha Elliott from Martin County, Florida. During our conversation, she said something that really resonated with me. I asked what is the word, action, behavior, or strategy that helps her go from just surviving to thriving. She answered treasure hunting!

My head tilted sideways and I gave her a confused look. She said, “Let me explain.” She continued to share that everybody has gifts and talents that they use daily in their work as educators and leaders. When you go out looking for the treasures in the people, you find inspiration. You find hope. You find positivity. Great things are happening, but you have to look for them. It’s like exploring for treasure!

The treasure hunting clip is at minute 28:25.

We always go back to the people in education. It’s the people who make it special, the staff and the students who bring energy to our buildings and districts daily. Go treasure hunting in your work today and you certainly will find something good. When you do, shine a light on it and celebrate that person.

Thank you Trisha Elliott for sharing this gift of treasure hunting. I’ve got my map, my compass, my binoculars and I’m on a mission today to find some treasure in the Port Jervis School District in NY.  I wish you the best on your journey and happy treasure hunting!
