Michael Meechin serves as the Florida State Director for NCEE. In this role, he oversees NCEE’s work in the State of Florida, supporting the research, policy, and professional learning with our Florida partner districts. Meechin works with our districts partners to develop solutions that impact their work as we prepare students for the complexities of today’s world.

Meechin brings expertise in system and school leadership, and school improvement work from his 20-year career in Florida and Georgia public education. Meechin has served in leadership roles in some of the most diverse learning environments in Florida working with some of the largest school districts in the nation. Prior to joining NCEE, Meechin was the founding principal at NeoCity Academy, a redesign of the public high school and now one of the highest performing schools in the State of Florida.

Meechin’s proudest work was that of turnaround principal, taking one of the lowest performing schools in Central Florida to a graduation rate over 91% - a 13% point increase over three years. During the same time, Meechin led an incredible leadership team and instructional staff to closing the gap for English learners and students with disabilities. The school was honored by the College Board for increasing access to rigorous coursework by 150% while also increasing performance by 33% over the same period. The work also resulted in the school earning distinction as an AVID National Demonstration School.

For his work, Meechin was named Florida Innovative Principal of the Year in 2018, and School District of Osceola County Principal of the Year in 2021. The Florida Department of Education also invited Meechin to join the Commissioner’s Leadership Academy as a fellow.
