Bay District Schools held its board meeting on Tuesday and voted on the Association of Bay County Educators master contract.

The contract package includes raises and salary increases for all instructional personnel in the district. The board approved an annual salary of $50,000 for starting teachers and a salary raise of $1,750 for all instructional personnel in the school district.

This is the first time in Bay District Schools’ history that new teachers have been offered this pay, which does not include the benefits and additional bonuses that instructors receive.

“It’s a competitive environment, so that pay scale, is top of mind for a lot of teachers, who are not only still living here in Bay county, but ones who are moving into the county as well. And as you know, everything is costing more, and so therefore it makes sense we’re going to do everything we can for our teachers to keep up with the cost of living, and a lot of that has to do with raising their base pay which we just did today,” said Steve Moss, Bay County School Board Chairman.

This is the school board’s approval of this measure and now it will go to the Association of Bay County Educators for final ratification.

The district says it will begin increasing teachers’ pay scale as soon as possible after the ratification.
